Anne Marie McCaughey Anne Marie Mc Caughey, born in Omagh, now lives and paints in Australia .
She trained in the eighties as an illustrator in Brighton, the top
college in England. Following this, she decided to focus on developing
her vision of Irish landscapes, creating a distinct style of
contemporary painting.
"Landscape here has always been a
fertile source for artists. It offers so much to explore in colour and
light, mood and movement; there are the emotional and historical
associations and all the physical sensations to investigate."
Anne's
work shows a fascination for the ambiguous rather than the ultra
realist and her representations of bog land and vast skies reveal her
roots as someone steeped in the countryside of Tyrone and Donegal.
Before
making the move Down Under two years ago, Anne Marie lived in Belfast
for fifteen years, during this period she was greatly inspired by her
new urban surroundings. Anne Marie's paintings from this time reveal her
"discovery" of the urban landscape, the parks and gardens, the river
walks, pockets of peace among the bustle and hubbub. One of her striking
innovations was to evolve the idea of vertical panels of vision in
which slivers of land are cleverly composed with dramatic impact.
Anne
Marie is an artist whose work is continually evolving and the move to
Australia has proved to be a great catalyst for her work. The new
experiences, dramatic landscapes and colours of her new home have
resulted in exciting paintings suffused with warmth and atmosphere.
Her
work has featured in Vogue, Cosmopolitan and recently Elle Interiors.
