The intention of Anthony Hayes' work, is to suggest the urban dynamic. Pedestrians manoeuvre and navigate through a plethora of roads, signs, motor vehicles and locations which are encountered in everyday situations.

It is the human drama and tensions taking place within this urban equipment and environment that Hayes' aims to explore. By focusing on these mundane, obvious interactions Hayes' endeavors to examine and disclose the extra-ordinary nature of the everyday. Recent paintings are a departure from usual working practices which are urban scenes painted in situ. These paintings were produced in the studio and are an amalgamation and distillation of the themes explored in the plein air work. Hayes' painting process is concerned with expressing the urgency of life using the material of oil paint. The immediacy of application is an integral aspect of the image making process, resulting in a raw, gestural, visceral experience.
